2025-10-19 Adam and Eve Sin and Reject God

Introduction

The primary goal of this lesson is to teach that people were created to show how special God is by thinking, feeling, and acting in ways that would reflect the greatness and wonder of God. Adam and Eve had the ability to fully enjoy all of God's wonderful creation and God himself as He walked with them in Garden of Eden. When Adam and Eve sinned, they traded the incomparable worth of the glory of God for something that will never satisfy and that they did not love God most of all.

Praise and Worship (15 mins)

Parents: The parent and child scheduled for this week will lead us in singing on Sunday. Please take time to practice the songs together at home, helping your child feel confident and joyful as they prepare to lead.

Prayer and Offering (5 mins)

Parents: Please encourage your children to bring an offering to church. You may help your child prepare by setting aside a coin for them to bring on Sunday. This is a great opportunity to teach them about giving to God with a thankful heart and trusting Him to provide.

What is Offering?

Offering is when we give something to God to show our love and thankfulness. In church, we often give money as an offering, but we can also give our time, talents, and kindness to God and others.

Why Do We Make an Offering?

To Thank God – Everything we have comes from God! Giving back is a way to say, “Thank You, God!”
To Trust God – When we give, we show that we trust God to take care of us.
To Help Others – Offerings help the church teach about Jesus, help people in need, and share God’s love.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 9:7,
"God loves a cheerful giver!" That means God is happy when we give with a joyful heart!
Prayer for Offering
Dear God, thank You for giving us everything we need. We want to give back to You with joyful hearts. Please use our offering to help others and share Your love. Help us to always trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Review Verse from Last Week

Psalm 16:11 —"You make known to me the path of life in your presence there is joy."

  • This verse is saying God told Adam and Eve they would always live- and never die- as long as they did not eat from the tree that God told them not to eat from. Being able to spend time with God forever will fill us with joy

(Draw tree)

AsThey longshowed asGod theyhow obeyedspecial God’sHe commandis by loving Him best and obeying what God told them about not eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.”

“Satan is God’s enemy. Satan hates God and doesn’t want Adam and Eve to love, trust, and obey God.”

(Put Satan in the Garden of Eden)

“Satan is a liar. He disguised himself as a snake and said to Eve, ‘doesn’t the fruit on the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil,Evil look so tasty? If you eat some of the fruit, you will be so smart, just like God!’”

“Do you think Eve listened to Satan?”

“Eve fell for Satan’s trick! She listened to Satan and ate some of the fruit because she wanted to be as smart as God. In fact, she gave some of the fruit to Adam to eat too”

“Was that a good idea? Why not?”

“Adam and Eve decided to listen to Satan instead of God when they wouldate neverfrom diethe andtree that God told them not to eat from. Adam and Eve can spend forever living with God. When someone never diessinned and livestheir forever, hearts itbecame is called ‘eternal life’.darkened.

(StickColour ‘eternalpaper life’doll signhearts inwith picture)black marker)

“This is just like my mirror earlier when it got dirty. It no longer shows a perfect reflection of my flowers. When Adam and Eve’s hearts became darkened, they no longer showed how wonderful and special God is because they sinned. Sin is when we do or say things that God doesn’t want us to do.”

Wrap-up & Discussion (3 min)

 Teacher:

AndWhat that’s what Adam and Eve have: eternal life with God. Adam and Eve loved, trusted, obeyed, and enjoyed God. They were showing God that they thought He was the most special person of all. Everything in God’s creation was just asdoes it shouldmean be and this made God very happy.”

Memorizing Verse: Romans 1:21a

Romans 1:21a
"For although they knew God, they did notto honor himGod? as God or give thanks to him,"

Teacher:

“Our memory verse today comes from Romans 1:21a: ‘For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him."

  • "What does it mean to honor someone?
  • "Honor: is another word for respect. What are some ways we can honor or show respect to someone?"

(Let children give suggestions)

  • "We can honor God by reflecting back to God that He is the most special person of all. We can do that by always thanking God for the good things he has given us and by obeying Him."

“Did Adam and Eve honor God?”

“What are some ways we can honor God?"

  • One of the ways we honor God is by trusting and obeying Him. Adam and Eve didn’t trust God and disobeyed Him by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.”

“Do we sometimes do or say things that God doesn’t want us to do?”

“How do you think God feels when we disobey Him and sin?”

Memorizing Verse: Romans 1:21a

Romans 1:21a
"For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him,"

Teacher:

“Our memory verse today comes from Romans 1:21a: ‘For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him."

    • “This verse is saying that even though Adam and Eve knew God as a friend, they didn't respect God or thank God for all the good things He has given them."

(Lead the kids in repeating the verse slowly)

(Repeat the verse in different ways, e.g.: saying it really fast, whispering, while hopping on one leg, etc.)

    Teacher:

    • "Did you know there's actually a second part to our Bible verse today? The entire verse is: 'For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking , and their foolish hearts were darkened.' "
    • So the entire verse is saying Adam and Eve ate the fruit because they thought they could become smarter and be like God, but instead they became foolish sinners with dirty hearts.
