2025-11-09 All People Are Born Sinners

Introduction

Today’s lesson helps children understand why sin is such a big deal and why God had to punish it. Adam and Eve’s sin was not just disobedience—it was believing lies about God’s goodness, wisdom, and love. Because God is perfect and righteous, He cannot ignore sin. Sin separates people from Him and brings death.
This lesson aims to help children feel the seriousness of sin, understand God’s holiness, and begin to see their need for a Savior—Jesus—who was promised even after Adam and Eve sinned.0

Main Ideas:

  • God is perfect and hates sin.

  • Sin separates people from God, making them unhappy.

  • God is right to punish sin with death—eternal separation from Him.

Praise and Worship (15 mins)

Parents: The parent and child scheduled for this week will lead us in singing on Sunday. Please take time to practice the songs together at home, helping your child feel confident and joyful as they prepare to lead.

Prayer and Offering (5 mins)

Parents: Please encourage your children to bring an offering to church. You may help your child prepare by setting aside a coin for them to bring on Sunday. This is a great opportunity to teach them about giving to God with a thankful heart and trusting Him to provide.

What is Offering?

Offering is when we give something to God to show our love and thankfulness. In church, we often give money as an offering, but we can also give our time, talents, and kindness to God and others.

Why Do We Make an Offering?

To Thank God – Everything we have comes from God! Giving back is a way to say, “Thank You, God!”
To Trust God – When we give, we show that we trust God to take care of us.
To Help Others – Offerings help the church teach about Jesus, help people in need, and share God’s love.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 9:7,
"God loves a cheerful giver!" That means God is happy when we give with a joyful heart!
Prayer for Offering
Dear God, thank You for giving us everything we need. We want to give back to You with joyful hearts. Please use our offering to help others and share Your love. Help us to always trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Review Verse from Last Week

Romans 1:21a
"For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him,"

Teacher:

“Our memory verse today comes from Romans 1:21a: ‘For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him."

“This verse is saying that even though Adam and Eve knew God as a friend, they didn't respect God or thank God for all the good things He has given them."

Bible Story (10 min)

Introduction (1 min)

Props Needed:

  • Picture of Family

(Hold up a framed photo of your family.)

Teacher:
“Let’s pretend this picture of my family was hanging here in our classroom. Now imagine someone walked in and said, ‘That’s an ugly picture! Those people are so mean and stupid—they shouldn’t even be allowed to come to church!’

(Pause and look surprised.)

Teacher:
“How would that make me feel?”
(Let the children respond: ‘Sad,’ ‘angry,’ ‘hurt.’)

Teacher:
“Yes, I’d feel angry and sad because someone said lies about people I love. It’s right to feel upset when someone lies about what is true.”

(Hold up a small container of dirt or mud.)
“Now imagine if that person smeared mud all over my picture. That would be even worse!”

(Pause.)
“But there’s something even worse than that—when people believe or say things that aren’t true about God. That’s what happened when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden.”

Story Telling (5 min)

Scripture: Genesis 3:8-23; Romans6:23a

Props / Visuals Suggested:

(Use the Garden of Eden scene and two paper dolls representing Adam and Eve. Show the Attributes Visual if available.)

The Sin in the Garden (Genesis 3:6–7)

Teacher:
“God made Adam and Eve to show the world how special and wonderful He is. But one day, they listened to the serpent instead of God. The serpent told them lies.”

(Point to attributes on the visual as you speak.)

“They began to think things like:

  • ‘Maybe God isn’t right about everything.’ (Point to ‘Righteous.’)

  • ‘Maybe God doesn’t really know what’s best for us.’ (Point to ‘All-Knowing.’)

  • ‘Maybe God doesn’t love us enough.’ (Point to ‘Love.’)

  • ‘Maybe we’ll be happier without God.’

Teacher:
“Were any of those things true about God?”
(Children: “No!”)

Teacher:
“You’re right! Those were lies. When Adam and Eve believed those lies and disobeyed God, they were saying, ‘God isn’t the most special person of all.’ That is sin.”

The Consequences (Genesis 3:8–23)

(Open your Bible to Genesis 3:8–23 and glance at the verses as you paraphrase.)

Teacher:
“After Adam and Eve ate the fruit, they heard God walking in the garden. What did they do? They hid! They knew something had changed. Their hearts weren’t pure and happy anymore—they were dark with sin.”

(Use a marker to turn the smiles on the paper dolls into frowns.)

“God asked, ‘Where are you?’ But Adam and Eve didn’t tell the truth. They blamed each other and even blamed the serpent.”

(Pause.)
“God is perfect and always right. He is angry at sin because sin says false things about how special He is.”

God’s Judgment

(Show the Eternal Life and Death signs from previous lessons.)

Teacher:
“Because of their sin, Adam and Eve could no longer live in God’s perfect garden. God told them they would die one day. Sin had separated them from Him.”

(Remove the Eternal Life sign. Place the paper dolls on the Death sign. Tape the Flaming Sword across the garden picture.)

Teacher:
“The Bible says in Romans 6:23, ‘For the wages of sin is death.’ Wages are something we earn. When we sin, what we earn is separation from God—spiritual death. That’s what Adam and Eve earned when they sinned.”

(Pause and speak softly.)
“Sin is a big deal. It makes us far from God, who is the most special Person of all.”

Wrap-up & Discussion (4 min)

(Gather children close for reflection.)

Discussion Questions:

1. “What was life like for Adam and Eve before they sinned?”
(Children: Happy, peaceful, close to God, no fear.)

2. “What happened after they sinned?”
(Children: They were afraid, sad, separated from God, had to leave the garden.)

3. “Why is God angry about sin?”
(Children: Because sin lies about who He is. It disrespects how special He is.)

4. “What does it mean that ‘the wages of sin is death’?”
(Guide: It means the result of sin is being apart from God forever.)

5. “Did God leave Adam and Eve without hope?”
(Children: No! God made them a promise!)

Teacher:
“Yes, in Genesis 3:15, God promised that one day He would send someone—a Savior—who would defeat sin and death. That Savior is Jesus.”

Closing Thought & Prayer

Teacher:
“Sin is serious because it separates us from God, who is holy and perfect. But God still loves us, just like He loved Adam and Eve. He promised to send Jesus, who would take the punishment for sin and make a way for us to be close to God again.”

(Fold hands and bow heads.)

Prayer:
“Dear God, You are perfect and holy. We’re sorry for our sin that separates us from You. Thank You for sending Jesus to take our punishment and bring us back to You. Help us remember that You are the most special and worthy of all our love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Memorizing Verse: Romans 6:23a

Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death,"

Wages are something you earn because of wsomething you have done

Craft & Game (10 mins)

Game: Stay Close to God!

Time: 10 minutes

👧 Age Group: 4–12 years

🧩 Lesson Connection:

This game helps children understand how sin separates us from God and how only God can bring us back to Himself—the main truth from Genesis 3 and Romans 6:23.

🪜 Setup & Materials Needed:

  • Painter’s tape or string to mark two areas on the floor:

    • “God’s Garden” zone (a safe area representing closeness to God)

    • “Sin Zone” (the area outside the garden)

  • 5–6 paper “sin cards” with words or drawings like lying, disobeying, selfishness, anger, pride, unkindness.

  • Optional: A “Flaming Sword” prop (made of paper or cardboard) for added visual fun.

  • Music or a bell (optional for transitions).

🎲 How to Play:

Step 1: Introduce the Game (1 minute)
Teacher says:
“In our story today, Adam and Eve were close to God in the garden. But when they sinned, they had to leave God’s presence. Sin separates us from God. Let’s play a game to see what that means!”

Step 2: Round One – God’s Garden (3 minutes)

  1. Have all children stand in God’s Garden Zone.

  2. Say: “When we obey God and trust Him, we’re close to Him. Let’s show what it’s like to live in God’s garden—happy, peaceful, close to Him!”

    • Let the kids laugh, smile, pretend to walk with God, or “pick fruit” from imaginary trees.

  3. Suddenly call out one of the sin cards (e.g., “lying” or “disobeying”).

  4. When you say the sin, everyone must step or jump into the Sin Zone because sin separates us from God.

Step 3: Round Two – The Consequence (3 minutes)
Teacher says:
“Oh no! You left God’s garden because of sin. The Bible says, ‘The wages of sin is death.’ That means sin brings sadness and separation from God.”

  • Have the children act out being sad, tired, or lost.

  • Then say: “Can we get back to God on our own?” (Children answer: “No!”)

  • “That’s right! Only God can bring us back.”

Now take away one sin card and announce:
“God made a promise that He would send a Savior—Jesus—to defeat sin and make a way back.”

  • Have the children return to God’s Garden Zone to show being restored to God’s presence.

Step 4: Repeat & Reinforce (2 minutes)
Play 2–3 quick rounds with different sins and bring them back to the garden each time with the reminder:
“God is perfect and hates sin, but He loves us and sent Jesus to save us!”

💬 Wrap-Up Discussion (1 minute)

Gather the children and ask:

  • “What made Adam and Eve leave the garden?” (Sin.)

  • “What happens when we sin?” (We are separated from God.)

  • “Who can bring us back to God?” (Jesus!)

End by repeating the memory verse together:

“For the wages of sin is death.” — Romans 6:23a

🌟 Teaching Point Summary:

  • God is holy and hates sin.

  • Sin separates people from God.

  • We can’t fix sin ourselves—only Jesus can bring us back to God.

Response Song

Closing Prayer & Snack Time (10 mins)

"Dear Jesus, thank You for being victorious over sin and death. Thank You for rising from the dead and showing us that nothing can stop You. Help us to remember that when we trust in You, we're on the winning side. We love You! Amen."

Now, let us thank You for the snack we’re about to enjoy.
We fold our hands.
We bow our heads.
